The Edge was the first alternative nightclub I ever went to. Before “nightclubbing” had always been a smart shoes and shirt thing, where it was accepted that the music would be awful but you would do your best to enjoy yourself and try not to engage eye contact with other men in fear of having the shit beaten out of you. (The Mission /Yates)(Bedford)
Before Edge I did not really have a social circle that I really shared any kind of common ideas or experience with. A lot of it was to do with being young and a social reject for most of my teenage life so it was refreshing to meet some people who accepted me.
I met a lot of my current friends at Edge. And some have become friends for life. I met John there, who gave opportunities to design for the Edge and his night that few people would get, and I appreciated that more than every really mentioned.
My life has changed a lot and so have my music tastes but their will never be a better nightclub in the world, I’m sad that it’s closing but all good things come to an end.
The feeling I loved the most from the place that despite the awful decor and unpleasant toilets and awful sound system, you felt at ease, welcome and you would have a good time.
My favourite times were probably in 2003–2004 and then in 2007 after finishing Uni.
I was I could put things better in writing…but Goodbye Edge!
